You can bypass the Bucket Protection in several ways:

  1. Attribute-Swap-Like: Main hand empty slot, switch to a water/lava bucket, place within the same tick.
  2. Freecam: With the Freecam mod, place the bucket while in Freecam.

This will spawn a server-side water/lava block
